There has been a surge of awareness among the school administrators to gradually change their policies in a way that support the culture of support and eco-friendly behaviors.
TRASH POLICY
After module 3 training, many schools have found their way to foster the culture of not using plastic and single-used food packaging. 1. At Tran Cao Van, the initiative started in a school camping day, a class refused to order food from outside vendors as usually, because it is always contained in single-used plastic boxes. Instead, they prepared food from home and use their family’s food containers. This bold action have gone viraland the school managers decided that their students would need to bring their own food containers to carry food in the school canteen.2. The change at Nguyen Truong To was initiated by the vice-prinpal, who has been advocated for not using plastic bags by strict regulations and also work with the canteen operators to cease its usage. To support her, the class teachers also nurtured the empathy with nature in class meeting and start the growing plants movement in the school.
REDUCE RIVALRY AND COMPETITIVE ATTITUDE
At Thuan Thanh, there has been some efforts to reduce the competitive attitude that has been deep-seated in educational context.
The school managers removed the “taking care of the garden” out of the criteria to compete between classes; instead the garden become a place for the students to experiment nature by gardening, playing and mindful walking.
The annual competition for teachers “Teach well, Study well” have reduced the time allowed for teachers to prepare the lesson: from 3 weeks to only 2 days in advanced. This is for teachers to be less stressful with the lesson preparation and more present and spontaneous with what they would deliver.
